Turkey Team Two members of staff from Balikesir Karesi Ortaokulu; Dumlupinar Mah. Kocaokul Sok. No:13/4 and this is their evaluation of the meeting

Evaluation of the meeting:
We had a very good time in UK. The welcome of our British friends was wonderful. There was a very warm welcome meeting at school. Our students had the opportunity of improving their English as well as making friends from other partner countries and they learned a lot about British culture.
It was interesting to see that there were many Muslim students at the school. We saw that they were integrated to the British system well and rules but they were still keeping their traditions and customs. And we also appreciated the respect given by British people to their customs, traditions and religion.
Also it was really emotional to see that al the teachers at the school were treating the students as if they were their own children. We could really felt the love and compassion they felt for their students. I personally impressed by the British headteacher’s conversation with them after the welcome meeting. He talked with them like their father, maybe their fathers aren’t giving that much support to them!
We presented our project activities and watched activities prepared by all participating countries, prepared one presentation about “European Life” together, played during Maths games and worked together in groups, had a picnic, sailing, looked for symmetry in Lavens Hall Garden, sightsaw many interesting places, took part in a disco or in the “treasure hunt”
Last day, Italian friends prepared pasta for us, also we prepared a Turkish desert for the project team and Romanian friends also prepared deserts for us.
Lastly we were delighted to see the opportunities for the special needs in our partner country and realized that we have a long and hard way to go about education of special needs even there is a good progress in the last few years.
We want to thank again to our friends for the wonderful week and experiences.

Italian Team Three members of staff from Scuola Media Statale M. Pluchinotta; Via Marletta, 2 Sant' Agata li Battiati; Catania; Sicilia; Italy

Evaluation of the meeting:

The Italian team was delighted both with our stay and the welcome we were given. Our English partners showed us the reality of the school they work in and we were able to compare notes on our ways of teaching, both with the British teachers as with our colleagues from other countries. Debra and the staff looked after us wonderfully, giving us the chance to get to know your beautiful country.
The project activities were well prepared and were great fun to do. Our kids really enjoyed their stay and all made the most of their opportunities to practice their English and enjoy themselves in a range of new outdoor activities: the sail on the lake was particularly memorable.
The days were so action-packed that all the participants immediately became a single group with  moments of pure fun,  music, dancing and tasting typical dishes from each of our countries (we actually made three different pasta specialties!): all this helped create a great climate.
Our kids really enjoyed meeting and getting to know the kids from abroad: both the project activities and the fun moments helped them make friends.
To sum up, we can say that our journey went well beyond a simple project and instead became a great adventure for us all.

Poland Team 3 members of staff from Zespół Szkół w Rudkach; Poland took part in this exchange

Evaluation of the meeting:

The Polish team has a high opinion of the meeting. Our British friends created an amazing atmosphere.
Teachers and students were also able to take part in great variety of activities connected with Maths. It was an interesting, and developing experience, and our students had a great time playing with their friends from the UK, Romania, Italy and Turkey . Teachers and students had the possibility to discover amazing British culture and historical landmarks. The meeting was really well prepared.  Our British friends did their best and were hospitable and helpful. They made an effort to help us to get to know and appreciate the diversity of British culture, customs, landmarks and traditions.
We had a wonderful time: presenting and watching activities prepared by all participating countries, preparing one presentation about “European Life” together, playing during Maths games and working together in groups, having a picnic, sailing, looking for symmetry in Lavens Hall Garden, sightseeing many interesting places, taking part in a disco or in the “treasure hunt”. During the whole stay we saw many beautiful and interesting places. During the meeting, all students talked incessantly with their new friends, using every moment to get to know and build personal relationships that are the most important aspects of a successful project.
This meeting was also a great opportunity to improve our students’ language skills. Observation of teaching-learning process and sharing experience during this meeting was an opportunity to learn a new innovative methods and forms of working with disabled children in our school.

Romanian Team SCOALA GIMNAZIALA ,, SFANTA VINERI''; Municipiul Ploiesti No. 19, Postei Street; Romania

Evaluation of the meeting:

First of all, on behalf of my team, I must say that we are grateful for the way the English team greeted us and our students, making this experience an unforgettable one.

The meeting in the UK was a great chance for all of us to get together again and present the activities organized by each partner school over the second school year. This way, we had the chance of an overall look at the achievements of our teams. The students were especially proud of the chance given, namely to present their work and the logical games and were also happy to be able to talk to students from other countries about their daily activities and compare their daily schedules and preferences.

Our team was especially impressed by the warm welcome we had and even more so with the school we had the honor to see. It had a great impact on us and it was truly inspirational to see how the students’ work was displayed in the hallways, the happy colours that could be seen everywhere, the modern equipment. We wish that one day our school will also be as welcoming as theirs.

We were furthermore impressed by the way the teachers encouraged their students with disabilities and also by how well they got along with our teams, proving that maths is indeed a universal language. Our students were able to make videos using geometrical shapes and build English landmarks  together, in multicultural teams.
We also enjoyed our treasure hunt containing maths clues that encouraged the students to discover a typical English village and, at the same time solve maths riddles. Lavens gardens also gave our students the opportunity to admire the beauty of geometrical shapes.

The meeting in the UK was the perfect opportunity for our students to meet for a last time, share ideas, work together, improve their language skills and discover England.

Coordinator's meeting

UK Team CO-ORDINATOR

Evaluation of the meeting.

Firstly I would like to thank all the partners for their generous words and comments.
It was a pleasure to host the final exchange and also challenging in trying to support project work into the week but I feel we successfully managed to vary the activities to incorporate the theme of ‘Maths is Everywhere!’ and to experience Britain and its cultures.
It was impressive to see all the young people totally unfazed when asked to work in mixed groups and not just stay in their comfort zone with their own nationalities. The students from all countries showed genuine enthusiasm to join in activities from a treasure hunt around a typical English village, creating paper aeroplanes from origami instructions in English or supporting each other sailing whilst others created animations. It was lovely to see everyone joining in and trying new things.
It has been a pleasure to meet and work with the coordinators and staff from the other schools
and to learn from them but also to show them how we work with our young people and have high expectations of them, no matter what their ability.

I believe this meeting rounded off what has been a wonderful 2 year project, where all students have been included and involved in some way. As a Maths teacher myself, it has been a terrific project to be part of and see that Maths is indeed everywhere!

(POLAND) Maths and Everyday Life

Task 12 was about everyday life of young Europeans - students made notes about their daily routines - from Monday to Friday and at weekends. Also, they were asked to compare how much time the activities took them and prepare charts to present their calculations.
